Eshowe Butterfly Dome & Cave
The Eshowe Butterfly Dome has been open since April 8, 2012, yet it has been extremely challenging to keep producing butterflies, especially over the winter, while also providing a quality service to the public. The COVID-19 epidemic also had a significant impact on its ability to function. With the help of the Umlalazi municipality and the School Project, we decided to revive the dome by offering a wide range of products, services, entertainment, and events in the near future.
However, I want to prevent a problem that arises in late spring and summer with thunderstorms and cloudy and chilly days, and because butterflies, the major attraction, are temperature sensitive organisms, they will not be visible flying in the dome. They fly in temperatures ranging from 24 to 30 degrees Celsius. We frequently have to close the dome due to inclement weather, despite the fact that guests want to see the butterflies, and when the weather is fine and the dome is open to the public, there are no visitors. To tie everything together and give a high-quality, enjoyable arena for the Eshowe community, we will limit visits to those days that are sunny or hot. If you want to know if the butterfly dome is open then call or whatsApp me at 0634219000.
What the Eshowe Butterfly Dome has to offer?
There are indigenous butterflies and their host plants in the dome. You can view all stages of the life cycle of various butterfly species. Inside the dome, there is now a breeding cage to assist breeding and to showcase the visitors.
Tables and chairs are available, as well as a "kitchen corner" where you can assist yourself to coffee and tea (free). We emphasize that you do not come for 10 minutes and then leave. Come sit down and watch the butterflies fly by while you having a cup of coffee and chilling with your friends. If you wish to get away from home to do some work, you are welcome to come and work on your laptop (electricity and free wifi are available at the tables).
The Eshowe Butterfly Dome features a cave, an underground structure with a Halloween theme. You can go back to the Witches kitchen and relax with your companion. Enjoy the strange sensation of being underground. You can reserve the space for a birthday celebration or simply come up with an excuse to throw a party and relax. Inside, there are two braai areas and a trench that you can walk inside.
Outside and around the dome, there is a nature playground with two braai areas. There is plenty of parking on the premises. There is a 200m trail that around the property, with several uphills and downhills for jogging, cyclists, and motorcycles.
Eco rocks, bonsai and tiny bonsai, aquaria ornaments, and other things are for sale.
